Social media is somehow complex and easy to understand all at the same time. Posting, following, and liking posts are all pretty self-explanatory, but figuring out what your audience wants to see and how to grow your following is less clear. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite social media accounts and what we love about them, so you can have a better idea of how to rein in some more followers to your own accounts.
1.
MoonPie’s Twitter
First of all, I love a MoonPie. What’s not to love? It’s basically a soft s’mores cake. But I started to love them even more when I discovered
MoonPie’s Twitter account. Whoever they hired to run their social media is killing it. The tweets are funny, timely, and engaging, which is truly the trifecta of good social media. Plus, they aren’t all about selling the little cakes, which is perfect, because I know what a MoonPie is and when I want one; I don’t need to be told with every tweet. Social Media is a cocktail party; no one wants to be friends with the person who tries to sell them something all night.
2. The
Lexington Humane Society Instagram
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like looking at pictures of dogs and cats, and the Lexington Humane Society does a great job taking high-quality photos and using captions that make their animals more adoptable. They’ve also done a few “story takeovers”, where they film Instagram stories as if they’re from a certain dog or cat’s point of view. This is both cute and funny, and leveraging animals is a great way to make sure people stay subscribed to your social media account. One of our clients will post pictures of dogs and cats that “help” them when they visit clients’ homes, and it always goes over well.
3.
Shop Dandy
on Instagram
As young women on a budget, it’s no wonder that a social media account focused on quality clothing you can buy inexpensively on Amazon resonates with the women of Creekmore. I think at this point, everyone in our office follows @shopdandy. The owner of this account does several things very well. First, she posts extremely regularly. Not many days go by without a new post or story from her. Additionally, she’s pretty open on her feed. She talks about building a house with her husband, the new dog they got, and her travel experiences. She makes it easy to let her followers feel like they know her, which builds trust and makes it easier for her to promote different pieces of clothing. Building trust through social media is a great way to make your customers more loyal to your brand.
4.
Netflix
on Twitter
So, naturally, lots of people engage with Netflix because of the shows they’re watching. However, Netflix does a great job capitalizing on that engagement by retweeting, mentioning, and quoting the people that tweet at them about their shows. A lot of their feed is user-generated content, which means that it comes from other people rather than them. This works really well with a brand as big as Netflix because people get excited when brands interact with them on social media. While this works great for a big brand, that doesn’t mean it can’t work for a smaller, more local brand as well. If you provide a product or service, invite people to tag you on social media with their experience or pictures. Just be sure to engage with them if you do this.
5. Wendy’s Twitter
The tagline for Wendy’s Twitter really says it all: “We like our tweets the same way we like to make our hamburgers: better than anyone expects from a fast food joint.”, but we’ll elaborate anyway. Wendy’s, like MoonPie, relies on humor and satire to keep their social media numbers up. Their Twitter account blew up a couple of years ago with their “clapbacks” at other business accounts, and they continued these shenanigans
this summer when Popeye’s released their new chicken sandwich. It’s definitely paid off for them and made them a more prominent name in the fast-food market. Humor is a great way to engage your followers and keep your business at the top of their minds when they’re looking for someone in your industry.
As you can see, running a successful social media campaign takes a lot of effort. Thankfully, you don’t have to do it by yourself. Creekmore Marketing has an experienced social media team that can help you grow your following and engagement.
