The Importance of Pay-Per-Click Ads

If you’ve ever searched for something online using a search engine like Google or Bing, chances are, you’ve seen a pay-per-click ad. Pay-per-click ads are usually the first results that pop up during a search and are noted with a little “ad” symbol or “sponsored” message. While it may seem fairly straight forward, there’s a lot that goes into making a successful pay-per-click campaign. With the rise of people searching on smartphones, pay-per-click ads are more important than ever. Search engine ads get prominence, and the size of smartphone screens means that ads are usually the only things shown “above the fold” on search results. This means the user has to scroll down to find any organic results. If the ads show what the consumer is looking for, chances are, they won’t continue to scroll; they’ll just click on the ad. This is one of the reasons pay-per-click ads are so important. Your company and product is in front of the consumer when they’re in a purchasing mindset.


Pay-per-click ads are also great for generating calls to your business. You can add call extensions to your ads, so if someone is interested in your product, they can call you straight from the ad, rather than going to your website and having to look for the contact information. Call extensions make it easier for consumers to get the information they want and easier for you to get leads to your business.

One of the best things about pay-per-click ads, especially Google ads, is that so much of the data can be measured. For example, let’s say you have a call extension on your ad and notice that you get the most calls on Thursdays. This lets you know that you probably need to have more people available to answer the phones on Thursdays, so you can convert those leads into actual visitors in your stores and, hopefully, more sales. Additionally, you can also track which ads are performing well and which aren’t, so you can direct more of your budget towards the ones that are doing well, increasing your ROI.
